For
me, Lavender Hill Suites
is the ideal location for a vacation to St John. Tucked
away down a private drive atop a hill, Lavender Hill Suites
offers commanding views of Cruz Bay harbor, and, across
the water, the island of St. Thomas. You can feel a million
miles away from the rigors of daily life as you lounge by
the garden pool or count the numberless stars from your
wraparound deck. Yet the serenity and privacy of the suite
belies the fact that you are a mere five-minute walk to
the shopping, restaurants, activities, and nightlife that
Cruz Bay offers. |

Thirsty?
Run out of film? Feel like snorkeling for the day
at the beach? Directly opposite the entrance to Lavender
Hill Suites, on the grounds of Gallows Point, you
will find the Unique Caribbean Gifts and St. John
Activities Center |
This
convenience store offers a wide selection of drinks, breakfast
foods, snacks, postcards, tee shirts, and souvenirs-all
for a reasonable price. The store also arranges sailing
and snorkeling trips to such exotic locations as Virgin
Gorda and the Tortola's Baths. You can even rent snorkeling
gear and flippers for only $8.00 per day. |
| Perhaps
you are more adventurous and want to try scuba diving.
Bear right out of Lavender Hill's driveway and walk
down the hill towards town. Located in a shopping
center, right next to the Beach Bar, you will find
Low Key Watersports, which offers daily scuba tours. |
You
don' t even need to be a certified diver, as the shop
offers "resort dives" for novices. In addition,
Low Key rents dinghies and snorkeling and scuba gear,
and this shop carries all sorts of clothing suitable
for the islands. |

If
you are looking for a gift for the kids or want to
read about the history of St. John, try Everyting,
a charming boutique just across the street from the
Beach Bar and next to St. John Car Rental. The store
offers a wide variety of island-themed gifts, including
games, books, souvenirs, tee shirts, and postcards.
You can also try their delicious iced lattes or cappuccinos. |
| As
you reach these shops, you are in the heart of Cruz
Bay. And you've only walked for about five minutes!
To your left is a shopping complex that includes a
jewelry store, an Italian restaurant, and the famous
Pussers
and Co., a tropical and nautical clothing and
accessories store. Just beyond this is the ferry-your
transport to further adventures in St. Thomas and
Tortola! |
If
you continue straight at the crossroads and walk past
the post office and some restaurants and shops, you
will find Mongoose
Junction. |
| The
Mongoose Junction shopping complex features dozens
of unique shops and galleries, including clothing,
jewelry, and art stores. When you tire from shopping,
you can relax in the shopping center's open-air cafes
and let the cool, ever-present Caribbean breezes cool
you down. |

Nightlife
in Cruz Bay is exciting and varied for a small island
town. Restaurants line the streets of the town, offering
a wide variety of world cuisines: Italian, Caribbean,
continental, Mexican among them. |

Cruz
Bay's bars and nightclubs are especially fun. The
world-famous Woody's
Seafood Saloon, where almost every night the patrons
spill over onto the streets, is a must-see. |
| Woody's
is located right next to the Celtic Cyber Café
and close to Duffy's
Love Shack, where the partying and dancing are
known to get a little wild in the wee hours. In the
mood for live music? The
Beach Bar has live bands almost every night! |

| I'm
glad I stayed at Lavender Hill, not only because the suites
themselves are large and luxurious, but also because it's
so close to everything I wanted to see and do. Take a look
at my pictures!
Thanks for a great
time,
